This Policy is established to ensure the safety of all employees, general public and avoid the Loses associated with accidents including vehicle repair, medical costs and Legal proceedings and to ensure qualified and competent drivers, vehicle fitness and periodic inspection of vehicles in compliance to applicable driving safety standards.

Driving Principles

Identify transportation risks and mitigate it through implementation of driving Policy which includes:

  • Ensure Driver’s training and qualification plan implemented.
  • Carry out physical inspection and check warning indicators signs before driving.
  • Confirm valid Vehicle fitness certificate present.
  • All drivers and persons sitting in vehicle must wear seat belts.
  • Driving a vehicle while under influence of alcohol or other prohibited substances is strictly prohibited.
  • Never use mobile phone while driving a vehicle.
  • To ensure inspections are carried out periodically by competent person.
  • Only diesel driven vehicle is allow to enter in plant area with valid Vehicle entry permit and spark arrestor.
  • Emergency response vehicles, Ambulance and Bicycles can move at Process side roads.

Applicability and Responsibility of Driving Policy

  • The policy applies to all concerns.
  • The policy shall be made available during orientation and communicated to all concerns.
  • Responsibility for the implementation of the policy lies with all first line supervisors.
  • It is accountability of Administration/HSE to ensure sign posting, road maps and speed limit signs are in place.
  • It is responsibility of HSE to ensure Road maps placed are legible and easy to understand.
  • Administration/HSE shall ensure communicating blind spots and placement of convex mirrors.
  • It is accountability of HSE to ensure review of policy.

NOTE:

  • Individuals, found breaching the policy, a counseling and education process will provide.
  • If a person found breaching  rules again, disciplinary action shall take against him/her.

 

Safety tips while driving vehicle in Fog, shall remember and keep in mind:

  • Drive Slow your vehicle, it will take time to reach.
  • Switch on your vehicle low-beam headlights from both sides to make visible.
  • Use fog light for visibility for others.
  • Do not use your high-beam lights which create glare to you.
  • Keep distance form other vehicles while driving in fog.
  • Ensure you are in the proper lane, follow line.
  • If visibility is near zero, switch on vehicle hazard lights, park vehicle at a safe location.
  • park your vehicle off to side of the road to save, switch on hazard flashing lights.
  • Set emergency brake and switch off all other lights of vehicle.

BEFORE DRIVE

  • Do not clear windscreen in a single swipe.
  • Check headlight, taillight, brake light and turn signal
  • Confirm treads depth of tires
  • Verify tire’s pressure, including the spare

  • At speed 35 mph
  • To reduce hydroplaning, drivers shall slow down

RESPOND TO SKID
If car begin to skid, do not panic and follow:

  • Control on sheering and car’s direction.
  • Avoid applying brakes, makes harder to control.
