1. Purpose of this Painting Method Statement
The purpose of this painting method statement is to provide general guidelines for painting works and to define the inspection activities. It covers the activities of painting works at all project sites to ensure high-quality finishes and standardized execution.

4. Responsibilities
Project Manager / Construction Manager: Responsible for overall implementation and monitoring of all the activities outlined in this painting method statement.
Site Manager: Responsible for over-all direction, monitoring, coordination, and control of all the construction activities related to the paintings.
Site Engineer/Supervisor: Directly involved in the planning and execution of the activities involved in the painting works. Ensures work permits are in place prior to the commencement of works. Directly controls and gives instructions to the working personnel.
QA/QC Manager/Engineer: Responsible for monitoring the work is carried out as per the Company approved ITP. Ensures all materials to be used are approved by the COMPANY. Checks each and every activity before and after the completion of the work, adhering to our (Internal Link).
HSE Engineer/Supervisor: Responsible for ensuring work is carried out as per Safe Work Practices, start cards, and that work permits have been prepared and issued. Conducts toolbox talks and maintains safety checklists prior to commencing the activity.

6. Painting Method Statement: The Procedure

Safety and Health Requirements
-
All employees shall be provided with complete personal protective equipment (PPE).
-
All employees shall attend a toolbox start card meeting to identify all hazards associated with this work.
-
All workers shall be provided with proper tools and equipment to execute the work safely.
-
MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) shall be made available at the work location.

For elevated tasks, fixed and movable scaffolding must be erected as per the area requirement. Ensure full compliance with (Internal Link) safety protocols. All scaffolding shall be inspected and approved prior to the start of work.

The use of ladders shall be restricted.
General Painting Procedure & Material Checks

A mockup sample will be made for selection and approval by the COMPANY representative prior to the commencement of the work.

Check that the material and painting system is approved by the COMPANY.

Delivered paint shall be checked against the following points: Expiry date, original labeled container, Manufacturer’s name, type of paint brand name, color designation, and mixing instructions.

Material shall be stored in a cool, well-ventilated dry place, away from direct sunlight.

Storage of paint material shall strictly follow manufacturer recommendations.
Surface Preparation Checklist for the Painting Method Statement

Make sure block masonry works, plastering, slab/wall/foundation pours, and grout, etc., are properly cured as per manufacturer requirements prior to commencement of work.

Confirm the surfaces are cleaned of all contaminants.
-
Confirm surface imperfections and nail head protrusions are repaired.
-
Confirm unsound and friable concrete is removed and repaired with a suitable concrete repair mortar as per Concrete Procedure (P-ALF-C-001).

Confirm surface irregularities and blow holes are repaired with suitable repair mortar.

Confirm the surface is dry.
-
Confirm holes/voids are filled up prior to the first coating.

Hardware materials which are already fixed and not to be painted shall be removed. If removal is not possible, they shall be completely covered/protected.

Clean concrete or cement plaster surfaces to be painted. Efflorescence, chalk, dust, dirt, grease, and oil shall be removed using approved (Internal Link).

The surface of the area to be painted will be prepared by removing loose particles, flaws, and any foreign material by way of sanding.
Sealant Application Guidelines

-
The joints shall be thoroughly cleaned to remove all traces of dust, oil, grease, or any unsound/contaminated material that might affect subsequent adhesion bonds between the sealant and substrate.

A backing rod will be inserted into the joints up to the nominated sealant depth.
-
Sealant will then be inserted/pushed by hand tools or a sealant gun.
-
Tooling of the sealant will be carried out immediately after application.

Make sure block masonry works, plastering, slab/wall/foundation pours, and grout are properly cured as per manufacturer requirements prior to the installation of finishes.

All paint shall be thoroughly, mechanically stirred to a uniform consistency.

Thinning and mixing ratios shall be in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.

The primer shall be applied as per manufacturer recommendations with the correct required thickness.

All priming and filling shall be rubbed down to a smooth surface with fine abrasive paper and cleaned off all dust before application of the first coat.

Material shall be evenly spread and applied smoothly without runs and sags by skilled workers.

Care shall be taken to avoid brush marks, sags, and other defects.

The coat interval, curing period, and DFT (Dry Film Thickness) of each coat shall be checked as per manufacturer requirements and verified using standard (Outbound Link).

All coats of paint shall be allowed to dry before subsequent coats are applied.
-
Apply the number of coats as per the specification and manufacturer recommendation.
-
Painting shall be done exactly as per the approved RAL number.
-
Each coat shall be checked and released by QA/QC personnel before proceeding.
